Torres-García described his friend, Jean Xceron, as "well-versed in the ancient culture of his homeland [Greece], his thoughts corresponded perfectly with this classical philosophical art and concept, and for this reason was a great friend of Torres-García. His painting tended toward the Byzantine, while at the same time fitting in within the norms of modern art. (Bien penetrado de la antigua cultura de su patria, su mentalidad respondía perfectamente a aquel concepto filosófico y de arte, y por esto fue gran amigo de Torres-García. Su pintura tendiendo hacia lo bizantino, estaba al mismo tiempo dentro de las normas del arte moderno)" (Historia de mi Vida, p. 152-153)
