Torres-García described his friend, Jean Xceron, as "well-versed in the ancient culture of his homeland [Greece], his thoughts corresponded perfectly with this classical philosophical art and concept, and for this reason was a great friend of Torres-García. His painting tended toward the Byzantine, while at the same time fitting in within the norms of modern art.
