Literature
In addition to his prolific career as an artist, Torres-García published articles, art reviews, and books throughout his life. Ranging from the artist’s well-known autobiography, Historia de mi vida (written in 1934 and first published in Montevideo in 1939), to unpublished manuscripts, and numerous articles written for such journals and newspapers as La Veu de Catalunya (Barcelona), Marcha (Montevideo), and La Nación (Buenos Aires), this database features nearly two hundred references related to the artist’s literary career.
Books, exhibition reviews, and other publications related to the artist by other authors are also included in this Literature section, which thus far includes almost 1400 records, with more continuously added. A search for an individual publication will return a full citation and a display of all of the paintings reproduced within the work (as thumbnails, relative size, or in list form). When relevant, literature records are often linked to other parts of the catalogue raisonné, as in the case of the exhibition review of the 1930 Cercle et Carré show by Maurice Raynal.
From the Literature page, a complete bibliography of all publications cited in the catalogue can be generated alphabetically by author, by date or by publication.
