This painting was most likely gifted by the artist to his friend, the Jewish poet, Joseph Milbauer (1898-1968). Milbauer, who manufactured oil paint as a living which the artist purchased from him, wrote the essay for Torres-García's Galerie Carmine show in 1927. In his memoir, "Historia de mi vida," Torres-García said that it was one of the best things that was ever written about his work.
